I know none of you here know me but I have been friends with SunKing via IM for a while now. He says there are some folks here that love Zombie and Vampire movies. I am a guy that loves to write and has always had a dream of making Indy movies. Well, this summer (probably in June) we will be shooting my movie "Thirsty" here in Mississippi. This is going to be a low to no budget affair so other than meals we will only be compensating our cast and crew with copies of the finished movie after editing is done.
Just because we are shooting on a small budget does not mean this will be a junk looking film. It will be shot on the same high end consumer/commercial camera used to film the latest Crash movie (the Canon XHA1) along with a Canon HV40 used for additional angle shots. My wife and I are investing huge on the equipment side to give this film a crisp professional feel. We'll be using flycam and steadicam equipment along with tripod mounted mini crane. We have excellent boom mike equipment. I'm not bragging just trying to let you know this isn't a "shot on a handicam" kind of proposition.
SunKing seems to think some of you may like to get a shot at being in our production. I have let him read a good bit of the script (which I will summarize in a moment). If so, be aware that this commitment would be at least a week in length. (depending on your part) and could be up to two weeks. Also I will need at least a few pictures in order to see what part you may fit. I have the characters pretty well in mind already. We will be needing a few extras and cast volunteers as well. Maybe you don't want to be in a movie but would love to be part of the making of one? Anyways, I am offering you this opportunity to help me fulfill a lifelong ambition, have a bunch of fun, and maybe even gain a little notoriety for yourself. (How many folks can say they acted in a movie?) We will be attempting to market and distribute the film as well as showing at any Indy events we can get to let us in the door. So, now you know what is involved. Let me tell you a little about "Thirsty".
Thirsty is a modern twist on the old vampire tale. In our vision the Vampires are actually drug addicts hopelessly enslaved to the crack rock. But, they do not smoke crack. They kidnap people viewed as "street trash", folks that no one really misses when they come up vanished. Then they force their captives to become addicted so they can feed on their crack rich blood.
There are two vampires in this tale, one male, one female. They move from city to city as the number they take gains the notice of authorities. This time they have come to the wrong part of suburbia. In his small town Sheriff Aaron is well loved. He is also the local martial arts instructor. He and his students run afoul of the Vampires and their vampiric ghouls (read zombie type creatures here). Can righteousness and a good rear naked strangle save the day?
In case you want a little view of my writing style and the feel of the film I'll give you a short view of the beginning of the script:
FADE IN:
EXT. BENEATH A HIGHWAY OVERPASS - NIGHT
TRAFFIC ROARS overhead as several of the city's homeless hunker down for the night. At the edge of the concrete pad sit BUM 1 and BUM 2. They are huddled around a small fire. Behind them sit two large appliance boxes that serve as homes. They are passing a mason jar half filled with an alcoholic swill. BUM 1 sits farthest from the fire and he takes an abnormally long draw from the jar.
BUM 2
(pissed off)
Hey you greedy sumbish. Pass that back this way.
Bum 1 lowers the jar and wipes his grizzled face with the back of a half gloved hand.
BUM 1
Piss off man. I made this here hooch. I'll drink all I want.
He passes the jar to Bum 2 and BELCHES. Bum 2 raises the dirty jar to his lips and starts to drink. From the shadows behind Bum 1 a pair of feminine hands ease forward over each of his shoulders.
BUM 1 (CONT’D)
Man, don't be bogarting that hooch bro!
Bum 1 starts to reach across the fire to grab the jar away from his friend. The figure crouched behind him becomes slightly more visible as the shift in Bum 1's position cast firelight on it. We see the shadowed female face framed in long, flowing hair. Her hands reach forward and gnarled claws sprout from the ends of her fingers. She plunges the claws into the Bum's flesh.
BUM 1 (CONT’D)
AAiiieeee!!!
With a GREAT FLAPPING of cloth against the wind Bum 1 is snatched up into the air and disappears into the night. His SCREAM fades.
BUM 2
Daaaammmmn! Oh well, I never liked that greedy sumbish anyway.
INT. LARGE ROOM AT INTERSECTION OF SEWER TUNNELS - NIGHT
CLARISSA strides into the room along a walkway above the sewer lines. She has Bum 1 by the scruff of the collar and is half dragging him across the floor. There are several people of varying ages chained to the wall across from her. They are softly MOANING. Half dried blood trails are visible coming from the arterial points of their bodies. She pushes Bum 1 onto the floor in front of MORPHEUS.
CLARISSA
(disgusted)
This one has been drinking some damnable home brewed creation. He tastes like drain cleaner.
Clarissa SPITS loudly on the derelict. Bum 1 GRUNTS and tries to get up. Morpheus plants a foot in his back and shoves him back down into the muck.
MORPHEUS
You should not have drank of him until we had time to get his system
cleaned out. It's your own fault
for being a glutton.
The bum raises his head and makes as if to speak. Morpheus crouches down and raps the bum across the temple with his knuckles. He grabs him by the waist of his pants and stands up lifting the bum in the air.
MORPHEUS (CONT’D)
I'll get him chained up and start the IV. Did you score any crack while you were out? We don't have much left and the red head is starting to act a little bit like she's getting DTs.
CLARISSA
No, I'm out of money and that piece of crap didn't have any on him.
Morpheus turns around and reaches with his free hand into his front pocket. He pulls out a wad of hundreds wrapped with a red rubber band.
MORPHEUS
(Throwing the cash to Clarissa)
Here, go score as much as you can. Tonight we will party!
I'm a retired MMA fighter and am willing to give you a few free juijitsu/muaythai lessons so you can look good in the fight scenes if need be.
