Grow Pineapples At Home
« on: July 01, 2010, 08:59:01 PM »
Buy you a nice pineapple or two. Do NOT cut the top off of the pineapple, there's no need. Simply grab the leaves firmly and twist them off of the fruit. They should disconnect at their base fairly easily.

Next, Remove the bottom leaves to leave about an inch of the center stock showing.

Let this dry out for a day or two and then place into a glass of water, keeping the water level just above the bared stalk.

After several days you should see white roots protruding from the stalk.

Once these roots reach about a half inch or longer, you can transplant the plant into soil.

Keep in mind, pineapples are slow growers. I believe I read it takes 3 years for a newly planted plant to bear fruit. They make nice ornamental plants and I may just use them as such.

I think that's just for the plant to reach maturity. I'm not 100% sure if it takes 3 years each time. I would think it's sooner than that.

I have about 9 or 10 pineapple plants growing currently.
